Daily news roundup: March 8th 2013

A slow end to the week news wise. No bother though, there are still some choice cuts awaiting your attention.

Lets begin.

  • Apparently Disney has already ordered a sequel to Oz The Great And The Powerful. No info is available on the sequel yet.
  • Birdman, yes I know it’s a strange title and reminds me of a certain Attorney At Law, continues to add its cast. The addition of Andrea Riseborough being the latest. This is the official synopsis for Birdman: A washed up actor who once played an iconic superhero must overcome his ego and family trouble as he prepares to mount a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim past glory.
  • George Lucas has confirmed the return of the holy trinity to the Star Wars franchise. Yes, Hamill, Fisher and Ford are all signed on for the next installment(s) in the saga.
  • Abbie Cornish, who stars as Ellen Murphy in the upcoming Robocop remake has poured  praise on the film and its director. Saying “It’s gonna be a massively kick-ass film,” says Cornish. “…I actually have a voicemail message from Jose Padilha, the director. He says in the message, ‘I don’t think we’ve got a great movie. I think we’ve got a classic.” High praise indeed, but let’s be honest, she’s not going to come out and say “actually yeah it’s a bit shit really” now is she.
  • Finally, after been linked with starring in the remake of The Crow, James McAvoy has now said he hasn’t signed on to any such film. His quote in full, “It’s not for real. I don’t think it’s materialized into anything truthful yet… it’s just been rumor mill stuff.”
