The Evil Dead Heads To Television, In Ash Vs. Evil Dead

After the Evil Dead remake left cinemas in 2013, there were various online rumours speculating on the future of the series. One moment there was going to be a direct sequel, the next there was a sequel on the way to Army of Darkness and then there was both which would culminate in an Avengers style crossover of the two universes. Now though, we know exactly where the Evil Dead is going, straight to television.

That’s right, US TV network, Starz, has picked up the option for a 10 episode season of Ash vs. Evil Dead. While this does seemingly dull any hopes of a return to the big screen for the Evil Dead, at least for now, it is still welcome news, made all the better knowing that director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell will also be returning.

The show will see Ash (Campbell) continue his battle against the Deadites, while Raimi will produce the series and also direct the first episode. Sam’s brother Ivan Raimi will also assist the production, as will long time cohort Rob Tapert and Tom Spezialy will serve as executive producer. Raimi gave the following statement:

Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga.  With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Ash vs. Evil Dead will air next year in the US, with no word yet on when it will air in the UK.

  1. I’m curious to see where this goes, while I’m no massive fan of the Evil Dead series, I know of its fandom all over the place especially from my mum who really likes the first film. I’ve only seen the first film and the make with me loving the former and hating the latter. I feel like I should brush see the other two before seeing this especially considering how much people go on about Army of Darkness.
