2015 promises to be a huge year for film fans. With the likes of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mad Max: Fury Road and Jurassic World all due for release, it will be a busy year to say the least. But this article isn’t about those films, nor is it necessarily about the actors who will star in those films. Instead, this article looks at the rising stars of 2015, those young actors and actresses who will be starring in films both big and small throughout the year.
Oscar Isaac has already built up a solid CV of work. Starring in the likes of Robin Hood, Drive and Inside Llewyn Davis, Isaac has also starred alongside some of Hollywood’s top talent. With that, it may seem like Isaac already is a household name, but with upcoming roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Ex Machina in 2015, as well as X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, it is likely the best is yet to come from the Guatemalan born actor.
Despite receiving an Academy Award nomination for the Danish film A Royal Affair, it would be safe to assume that many of you have not heard of Alicia Vikander. 2015 will change that. Alicia is set to appear in seven films throughout the year. She will star alongside Taron Egerton, who is also on this list, in Testament of Youth, where she will play a young Vera Brittain, while she is also due to appear alongside Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina and will star in Guy Ritchie’s film version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Michael B. Jordan
Having already proven his acting talent in the likes of Fruitvale Station and Chronicle, Michael B. Jordan is ready to set the screen alight (sorry) with his performance as the Human Torch in next years reboot of the Fantastic Four at Fox. Jordan’s casting unfortunately caused a bit of a stir when it was announced last year, but the actor will surely put any doubters in their place when the film is released on 6 August 2015.
Two films that could not be more different are Disney’s live action adaptation of Cinderella and the, rough, adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Both films will however, star Lily James. The actress has had roles in the likes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Wrath of the Titans, but is probably best known for her work on Downton Abbey. 2015 could be her year, and transform James into a household name.
Taron Egerton has not had many roles in his young career, but he is ready to be thrust into the limelight with two significant roles in 2015. First up is his performance as Edward Brittain in Testament of Youth, where he stars alongside Alicia Vikander and Kit Harington in the adaptation of Vera Brittain’s First World War novel of the same name. Second, he will star in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. Here he will star alongside Colin Firth, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson as a young troublemaker brought into the world of espionage.
Britt Robertson has slowly but surely being making a name for herself in Hollywood. She has appeared in the likes of Dan in Real Life and Scream 4, while she has also had a recurring role in the American sci-fi drama Under the Dome. However, 2015 will see her star in the Brad Bird directed Tomorrowland which also stars Hugh Laurie and George Clooney, and may well be one of the surprise hits of the summer.
